Train From Pyongyang there is a train, going via Yangdok and Kowon.
Bus/car Hamhung is located 315 km from Pyongyang. It is a 113 km ride from Wonsan to Hamhung. The road does not go along the coasts, but over the plains. After 44 km you will pass the city Kowon. 13 km further is Kumya, a place with a lot of coal and a famous, 1,500 years old, gingko-tree. After 33 km you will get to Chongyong, known because of the large duck-farm. From Chongyong it is only 14 km to Hamju. Hamju is located at the Songchon River. Manse Bridge will bring you to the other side, to Hamhung.
