KAESONG TRAVEL INFO
To and from KaesongKaesong can be reached by train from Pyongyang, a 198 km ride. However, it is advisable to take a car or bus, because it gives you a better opportunity to get an impression of the countryside along the way.
Since 1990 there is a good, quiet road from Pyongyang to Kaesong. It reduces the 160 km trip to only 2 hours.
The trip along the old road takes about 3 hours. After 21 km you will pass Chunghwa, after 41 km Hwangju. After 60 km on your left side you will see Chongbang Mountain. On the mountain there is an old fort. The walls are 12 km long. In the fort is Songbul Temple dating from 898.
A few kilometers further, 67 km from Pyongyang, you will reach Sariwon, the capital of North Hwanghae Province. The town is located at Sohung River. Along the river there is the third class March 8 Hotel. In the outskirts of Saridon there is a 300 ha big vineyard where the grapes for the famous Sariwon Wine are grown.
In Sariwon the road
divides into two: south to Haeju and southeast to Kaesong. 20 km
after Sariwon you will pass Pongsan. A little further is the Sohung
Rest House. Then, 60 km after Sariwon, you will pass the
small town of Sohung. Another 28 km and you are passing Pyongsan.
After this on your right side you will see Taebaek Mountain. On
the mountain there is an old fort from the Koryo period. The
walls and gates are still visible. After the mountain you will
pass Kumchon. Another 30 km and you are in Kaesong.![]()
