PYONGYANG HOTELS
Pyongyang has several hotels where foreign guests are being accommodated.
Deluxe hotels
Pyongyang Koryo Hotel. Changwang
Street. Tel: (+850-2) 18111-ext.7600. Fax: (+850-2) 3814422.
Opened in 1985. A little bit south of the city center and near
Pyongyang Railway Station. 45 floors in twin towers. The hotel is
a landmark in Pyongyang. It has 500 comfortable, but not too big,
rooms. Several restaurants (also Japanese). Nice atmosphere in
the lobby.
Yanggakdo Hotel. Tel:
(+850-2) 18111-ext.2134. Fax: (+850-2) 3812930/1. Opened in 1995.
On Yanggak Island in the Taedong River, 4 km southeast of the
city center. The modern and luxuriously decorated hotel is (after
the Koryo) the second best hotel of North Korea. It is a huge
building of 47 floors and in the top a rotating restaurant.
First class hotels
Angol Hotel. About 7 km outside the center.
Chongnyon Hotel. Chukjon-dong, Mangyongdae District. Corner of Kwangbok and Chongchun Street. Tel: 72340. Triangular design. Hotel of 30 floors and 520 rooms.
Pothonggang Hotel. Ansang-dong, Pyongchon District. Tel: 48301. Fax: +850-2-3814428. Opened in 1973. About 4 km west of the center, at the Pothong riverside. Good hotel of 9 floors and with 162 rooms.
Ryanggang Hotel. Chongchun Street, Mangyongdae District. Tel: 73825. Opened in 1989. In the west of the city, where the Taedong and the Pothong Rivers meet. Six buildings with in total 330 rooms. The main building has 11 floors and in the top a rotating restaurant.
Ryugyong Hotel Sojang-dong, Pothonggang District. This triangular, pyramid-like hotel of 105 floors and 3,000 rooms has been 'under construction' for many years now. It seems hardly likely to be finished in the near future. It was supposed to be one of the showcases of Pyongyang but anyway has become one of the landmarks in the city.
Sosan Hotel Chongchun Street. Tel: 71197. Opened in 1989. At Kwangbok Street in the west, 4 km from the city center. Big hotel with 30 floors and 474 rooms.
Tourist Hotel. . About 7 km outside the center.
Youth Hotel. Chilgol-dong, Mangyongdae District. Opened in 1989. About 10 km west of the center, near Kwangbok Street. Good hotel, 30 floors, 465 rooms.
Second class hotels
Pyongyang Hotel. Sungi Street, Kyongrim-dong, Central District. Tel: 38161. Fax: +850-2-3814426. Opened in 1961. In the center, at the west bank of Taedong River and opposite Pyongyang Grand Theatre. Five floors and 170 rooms.
Taedonggang Hotel. Sungi Street, Kyongrim-dong, Central District. Tel: 38346. Fax: +850-2-3814424. Opened in 1956. In the center, at the west bank of Taedong River. Hotel with 5 floors and 60 rooms. The hotel is a bit old and worn out.
Third class hotels
Haebangsan Hotel. Sungni Street, Haebangsan-dong, Central District. Tel: 37037. Fax: +850-2-3813569. Opened in 1961. In the center, near Taedong Bridge. The only third class hotel where foreigners are allowed to stay. There are not many tourists in this hotel, but mainly foreign students (mostly from African countries like Sudan). Five floors and 83 rooms. Rooms are clean but not luxurious. Bathrooms with hot water.

Changgwangsan Hotel. Chollima Street, Tongsong-dong, Central District. Tel: 48366. Second class. Opened in 1975. 3 km west of the center, at the Pothong River. Twin towers of 17 floors and 420 rooms.
Moranbong Hotel. Moranbong Street. In the north of the city.
Ponghwasan Hotel. Moranbong Street. In the north of the city.
West Pyongyang Hotel. Pipa Street. In the northwest of the city.
