Sinuiju-UijuSINUIJU TRAVEL INFO

Sinuiju is the capital of North Phyongan Province and sits on the border linking China with a bridge over the River Amnok. In April 2004 there was a train incident in Ryonchon, a small town, about 50 km south of the border. It appears power cables touched rail wagons loaded with ammonium nitrate fertiliser. There were 154 dead, including 76 schoolchildren, and 1300 injured reported. See also the BBC Word Service about the incident.
On April 24 officials expected the international train Beijing-Pyongyang to be in operation again in a few days.
