WONSANWONSAN

Wonsan, the capital of Kangwon Province, is situated at the east coast of Korea, 200 km from Pyongyang and not far from the Kumgang Mountains.

The city was formed in Koguryo (277 BC - 668 AD). In the 1880s it was opened as a trade port and occupied by the Japanese. The harbor city was destroyed during the Korea War and afterwards rebuilt. Although it is rather new and even has a seven-lane road along the coast, Wonsan looks less modern than the capital Pyongyang.
